Bishop Shelton L. Beneby
BISHOP SHELTON LIVINGSTON BENEBY is the fifth son of the late Bishop Nathaniel and Victoria Beneby. He preached his first sermon as a young teenager in the small wooden church his father pastored. His topic was “The Ten Virgins.” Even at that tender age of twelve he knew that God had called him to work in His vineyard. Shelton heed the call and became a member of the church at age fourteen and went on to serve in a wide range of ministries, with a passion for teaching and engaging young people.
Bishop Shelton devoted 25 years to pastoral ministry, first as Community Mission Pastor, where he founded Project TIME, a nonprofit training institute to take the gospel and love of Jesus Christ to at-risk young men and women in low-income urban communities. He was subsequently appointed Senior Pastor of the Baillou Hill Road COGOP in Nassau, The Bahamas, and ten years as District Overseer of Crooked Island in The Bahamas. He also served the Church of God of Prophecy Internationally as a Member of the Board of Trustees for Tomlinson College.
He has served the last twelve years as Senior Pastor of Toronto New Covenant Cathedral, (TNCC), a ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy, in Toronto, Canada, and Administrative Assistant to the National Bishop of Eastern Canada. Since assuming this post in 2010, TNCC has emerged as a community church working with public agencies and other denominations to serve surrounding communities.
In July 2015, Bishop Shelton founded Connecting the Generations International (CtGI), a nonprofit training institute that helps leaders connect the generations in the church, home and community. CtGI is sponsor of the biennial International Leadership Conference (ILC), now in its fourth season.
Bishop Shelton enjoyed a successful 38-year career in the Bahamas Public Service before he entered full-time pastoral ministry. He served as a Public-School Teacher, Director of Youth, Director of Urban Renewal and retired as a Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation.
Shelton’s academic training includes the Master of Arts in Religion from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Boston, Massachusetts, and Master of Science in Community Education from the University of Minnesota at Mankato.
He is author of three books: “Shape the Future Now: A Call to Church Leaders, Policy Makers, Community Organizers and Parents”; “Shape the Future Now by Connecting the Generations: A Training Manual” and “Premarital Counseling for a Healthy and Lasting Marriage.”
Bishop Shelton Beneby is a mission-focused minister. He is married to Minister Shelly Ricketts- Beneby for the past 36 years. They have three children, Shea-Ashlee, Sherod, and Shalah.
